Receipt Template for Bayana and Hall Payments in Pakistan
In Pakistani event businesses the receipt that causes the most trouble is the first one: the bayana a family pays to hold a date. It is often cash, often handed to a manager at the reception desk, and it is the document both sides reach for when a date is cancelled or moved. Here is what to put on it and on every payment after it. The same rules apply whether you run a marquee, a hotel banquet floor or a catering company that serves at homes.

The bayana receipt is a small contract
A token receipt should say much more than the amount. Write the booking reference, the function and date it holds, the per-head rate agreed, and whether the token is refundable, adjustable against the final bill, or forfeited if the family cancels. If you only write "received Rs 100,000 advance", every one of those questions becomes an argument later.
Copy the cancellation and date-change rule from the quotation word for word. Families keep the receipt far longer than they keep the quotation, and a matching rule on both is the easiest evidence you will ever have.
Print two copies. The family keeps one, and the counterfoil stays in your file with the booking, stapled to the quotation it refers to.
What your receipt must show in Pakistan
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Receipt number and date | A continuous series makes gaps easy to spot |
| Booking reference, function type and date held | Ties the token to one date on the calendar |
| Payer name and whose booking it is for | Payments often come from relatives |
| Amount in figures and in words | Prevents altered figures on handwritten copies |
| Payment method and reference (cheque no., Raast or wallet ID) | Proves the source of the money |
| Refund, adjustment and date-change terms | The receipt is the document families keep |
| PRA fiscal invoice number and QR code for Punjab venues | Required on receipts under the PRA monitoring system[1] |
| Advance tax under section 236CB on the final receipt | The payer needs it to claim the credit[2] |
Record how the money arrived
Payments come in every form: cash at the desk, a cheque from a company, a Raast transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa from a cousin in another city. Put the method and its reference on the receipt: the cheque number and bank, the transaction ID, or the name of the person who handed over cash. A payment from someone other than the booking name should say on whose behalf it was made.
Do not treat a cheque as paid until it clears. Issue an acknowledgement of the cheque, then a receipt when the bank credits it, or state clearly on the receipt that it is subject to realisation.

Punjab halls need a system-generated receipt
News reports from August 2026 describe the Punjab Revenue Authority enforcing its Electronic Invoice Monitoring System at restaurants, hotels and marriage halls, with fines from Rs 400,000 to Rs 1 million for handwritten or unintegrated receipts and each receipt carrying a PRA fiscal number and QR code. If you run a Punjab venue, the receipt a guest takes home for a taxable service has to come from that system.
Your own booking receipt, the one that records the token and the terms, can sit alongside it. What you cannot do is give a handwritten slip instead of the fiscal receipt. Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa run their own monitoring programmes, so check which categories your authority has brought in.
Cash tokens and the desk that takes them
Cash is still common for bayana payments, especially when an elder in the family pays at the reception desk on the first visit. Decide who is allowed to accept cash, give that person a numbered receipt book or a system login, and reconcile the cash with the bank deposit every evening in season. A token taken without a numbered receipt is the start of most disputes that end with the hall refunding money it never saw.
Count the notes in front of the family, write the amount in words and figures, and have both sides sign the counterfoil. If the amount is large, ask for a bank transfer instead. It protects your staff as much as the family.
Part payments and the balance on the night
Many families pay in three steps: the bayana, a second instalment a month before, and the balance at the end of the function. Number each receipt, show the running total received, and state the balance still due against the latest estimate. When the head count on the night changes the bill, issue the final receipt against the final invoice, not the quotation.
If you collect advance income tax under section 236CB, show it separately on the final receipt. It is collected from the person arranging the function at a rate linked to their Active Taxpayers List status, and they will need the figure to claim it against their own tax.
Refunds and forfeited tokens
When you refund part of a token, issue a refund voucher that references the original receipt number and states the amount returned, the amount kept and the reason. When a token is forfeited under the booking terms, write to the family and keep a copy with the receipt. Whether a forfeited token carries sales tax depends on your provincial rules, so ask your accountant rather than guessing.
Venura records every receipt against its booking, keeps the running balance, and lets you send the receipt on WhatsApp in a couple of taps. Keep issuing fiscal receipts from your authority's system where one is required.
A worked example: three receipts for one barat
Take the Rawalpindi barat on this page. The family pays a 20 percent token by Raast in July to hold a December Saturday, and receipt 1 records that amount, the booking reference and the date-change rule. In November they pay a second instalment by cheque from the groom's uncle, and receipt 2 names the uncle as payer on behalf of the booking, with the cheque number and a note that it is subject to realisation.
On the night, 380 guests come instead of 350. The final invoice charges the extra 30 heads at the agreed rate, and receipt 3 records the balance paid in cash and by JazzCash, shows the total received across all three receipts, and lists the advance income tax collected under section 236CB with the payer's CNIC. The PRA fiscal receipt for the taxable service is printed from the integrated system at the same time.
Three documents, one running total, and nothing a family can later say was never agreed.

Receipt questions from Pakistan
Is a bayana refundable if the wedding is cancelled?
Only if your booking terms say so. There is no single national rule, which is why the refund, adjustment and forfeiture terms should be written on both the quotation and the bayana receipt, in the same words, and signed or acknowledged by the family.
Can a marriage hall in Punjab issue a handwritten receipt?
Reports from August 2026 say the PRA is fining halls, hotels and restaurants Rs 400,000 to Rs 1 million for handwritten or unintegrated receipts. Issue the fiscal receipt from the PRA-integrated system and use your own booking receipt only alongside it.
How do I record a JazzCash or Raast payment on a receipt?
Write the method, the transaction ID, the sender's name and number, and the date and time of the credit. If the payment came from a relative, say on whose behalf it was made, so the booking name and the payer both appear on the record.
Should the advance income tax appear on the receipt?
Yes, on the final receipt. Tax collected under section 236CB from the person arranging the function should be shown separately with their CNIC or NTN, so they can adjust it against their own income tax.
When is a cheque payment treated as received?
When it clears. Give an acknowledgement for the cheque on the day and a receipt when the bank credits it, or mark the receipt as subject to realisation so nobody treats an uncleared cheque as settled.
